Rochester-based Mayo Clinic announced a strategic collaboration with Microsoft to develop a frontier AI model purpose-built for healthcare. The partnership combines Mayo's clinical expertise and de-identified clinical health data with Microsoft's AI and cloud infrastructure.

The model is designed to support clinical reasoning across a wide range of use cases, including earlier diagnoses, personalized treatment decisions, and complex care team decision-making. Importantly, the model will be owned by Mayo Clinic, preserving its commitment to patient trust and data stewardship. Microsoft plans to distribute it through Azure Foundry APIs, making it accessible to health organizations worldwide.

Mayo Clinic Platform, launched seven years ago, provides the de-identified clinical health data foundation underpinning the project. The model will initially be deployed within Mayo's clinical environment for real-world testing and refinement before broader release.
